3 Capitals Cycle Challenge
Discover the beautiful cities of Budapest,
Bratislava and Vienna on this fantastic bike ride along the banks
of the River Danube.
23-27 September 2010
On this exciting 5 day event, we will visit 3
countries and 3 capitals as we cycle through wonderful scenery
along the River Danube across an interesting mix of terrain
including quiet country roads, cycle paths and challenging
riverside paths.
The event starts in Budapest, Hungary. Upon arrival in the
city we will collect the bikes and start the challenge by
taking part in a bike tour of the city - as a UNESCO
site it boasts several sights such as the Buda Castle Quarter
and Andrassy Avenue.
Day 2 gets off to an early start as we head out of the city
on quiet roads and forest trails. Today the route passes through
forested landscape, small villages and farmland, before approaching
the River Danube in the afternoon.
En route we will pass Tata, the "town of water" and
Esterhazy Castle, dating back to the Middle Ages. The day finishes
as we cross the bridge from the Hungarian half of the split
city of Komarom into Slovakian Komarno.
The next days ride follows the River Danube and winds its
way through pretty farmland, before reaching the lively capital of
Slovakia, Bratislava on the city’s impressive cycle path
network.
The final day of cycling takes us along the Danube Valley
crossing the border into Austria, the last of the 3 countries on
this challenge! We cycle through picturesque farmland dotted with
ruined hilltop castles, and a stunning section of the Danube
Wetlands National Park.
The ride ends on arrival in Vienna - the final destination
on this ride where we cross the finish line and celebrate our
achievement!
