Brad Faine
Love Hearts
Silkscreen Print
Image Size: 430 x 570 mm
Paper Size: 585 x 750 mm
In Love Hearts, Faine uses visual and textual
wit to encapsulate the theme of 'Mending Broken Hearts'.
At the base of his composition, a heart shape is created by a
group of the popular sweets Love Hearts. The are
famous for the phrases that are printed on them,
in this case they include 'Text me', 'Kiss me', 'Yes dear', 'Sweet
heart' and 'Little kiss'. Each of the Love Hearts are
broken.
Overlaying the Love Hearts is a field
of text that upon careful examination can be broken up
into words that relate to heart health such as
'hypertension', 'cholesterol' and 'infarction'. It is only finally
that we notice that the one little Love Heart at the centre of the
composition is unbroken, and that it reads 'True
Love'.

About the Artist
Born in 1945 in Brighton, Brad Faine
studied painting and printmaking at Leicester College of Art and at
Goldsmiths College. He then taught printmaking at Farnham
College of Art and St Martin's School of Art as well as lecturing
at numerous colleges before setting up his own screen printing
studio in 1973.
Faine's early studies centred on an interest in conceptual art
and later developed towards a concentration on colour field
painting. For many years his work was concerned with the study of
the qualities of colour and form without reference to natural
objects. Faine’s recent work is focussed on multi-layers of meaning
and imagery within a grid format; giving the viewer a wealth of
visual information to absorb. Often in response to current affairs
Faine’s works are witty and comic visual conundrums.
His work has been exhibited in group shows and can be found in
many private collections. Brad Faine is the Master Printmaker at
Coriander Studio.
