Chest X-ray
A chest X-ray allows
doctors to examine your heart,
lungs and chest wall.
If you have symptoms such as feeling short of breath, a
chest X-ray helps doctors to find out whether your
symptoms are due to a lung condition or a heart problem
- for example, an enlarged
heart.
If your doctor thinks you may have a heart condition, he or she
will probably arrange for you to have other tests.
Having a chest X-ray is painless.
If you are pregnant, be sure to tell your doctor or radiographer
as they may suggest you avoid having a chest X-ray early on
in pregnancy.
For more information on chest X-rays
and other tests for the heart, see our booklet
Tests for heart conditions.
