Anette's life with a heart defect

Annette

When Anette Chapman was born she already had problems with her heart and needed an operation to fix it.

In 2008 she had a serious infection in her heart which required another operation.

Anette was born with congenital ventricular septel defect and aortic insufficiency.

In May 2008 she fell very ill with bacterial endocarditis. But after an operation and treatment she's now a full time mum and student, back to exercising and living a full life.

Anette says: "I have three wonderful young children who I will see grow up, and I enjoy life just a little more!"

She's managed to build a full and happy life.

"I am very determined to look at all the positives after my illness.

"It has taken some hard work, a few tears on and off and lots of determination to recover fully, but a year on from my illness I feel back to being me again.”

Anette says the BHF helped her feel less alone in her illness, with a wealth of support, knowledge and kindness on offer.
