Research milestones
Thanks to your donations, since the 1960s we have funded
some of the greatest breakthroughs in heart science.
Most babies born today with heart defects now survive,
pacemakers help people control their heart conditions, and statins
are lowering cholesterol levels for millions. Heart attack
treatment has been revolutionised.
But there's still a way to go.
Our research
Over half of
all heart research in the UK is funded by the money you give.
And over the next few years we are looking to
spend £50 million to give hope to the thousands of people affected
by heart failure after a heart attack as part of our Mending Broken
Hearts Appeal.
About our Mending
Broken Hearts Appeal
Every year we award top scientists millions of pounds to carry
out research to diagnose, prevent and find a cure for the UK's
biggest killer, heart disease.
A long way to go
For all our success, there's a lot to be done. Heart disease is
still the UK's biggest killer.
Millions of people are living with heart failure. Surgery
techniques can still be improved. And there are exciting
developments in genetics and stem cell technology yet to be
found.
So we're investing in the latest technologies and the best
science. And we're helping the most talented researchers
put their minds to the problems of heart disease prevention and
care, and continue the search for a cure.
