Programme grant in stroke
New applications invited
We're inviting applications for one programme
grant in the field of stroke, awarded jointly between The Stroke
Association and the British Heart Foundation.
Applications must be directly related to
stroke illness, and must have a vascular link. Non vascular related
applications, for example focusing on rehabilitation or
the consequences of stroke, non angiogenic brain tissue
regeneration, or non vascular neuroscience will not be
considered.
The award is for up to five years in
duration, and a maximum of £1 million.
Applications should be submitted in outline in
the first instance to the Stroke Association. Following
adjudication of the outline applications, a shortlist of applicants
will be invited to submit full applications in March 2012 and the
grant will be awarded in July 2012.
The closing date for receipt of outline
proposals is Friday 10 February 2012.
Further details are available on
the Stroke Association's
website, or by contacting the Research Department, The Stroke
Association, 240 City Road, London EC1V 2PR.
Starter grants for clinical lecturers
New applications invited
This funding scheme provides ‘starter’ funds
to enable research-active Clinical Lecturers to pursue their
research work, gather preliminary data, and strengthen their
applications for longer-term fellowships and funding. The scheme,
which makes awards of up to £30,000 over two years, is a
collaboration between the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Wellcome
Trust, the British Heart Foundation and Arthritis Research UK.
The grants are available to contribute towards
research costs such as consumables and equipment. The deadline for
the latest round of applications is Monday 12 March
2012. Decisions on these applications will be made by
the Selection Panel in June.
Since it began in 2009, the scheme has
delivered six rounds of funding and supported 130 Clinical
Lecturers with grants totalling just over £3.7m. For further
details of the scheme and for full eligibility criteria, please
visit the Academy’s website.
Funding for cardiovascular regenerative medicine
We are 50 years old in 2011 and as part of our
celebrations we're initiating one of the most ambitious programmes
of research we’ve ever undertaken.
We aim to boost our research portfolio in world-leading
stem cell research and development biology. In
addition to our existing grant awards, we will be making major
investments in fellowships, projects and
programme grants aimed at understanding the fundamental science
to make the promise of regenerative medicine for cardiovascular
disease become a reality.
Researchers should consider us as their first port of call for
funding of cardiovascular regenerative medicine research, and
we welcome applications for grants in this
area.
