Regional differences
There are national and regional differences in the number
of people dying from coronary heart disease (CHD) in the
UK.
Death rates from CHD are highest in Scotland and the
North of England, lowest in the South of England, and intermediate
in Wales and Northern Ireland.
The premature death rate for Scottish men is 63 per
cent higher than in the South West of England and 100 per
cent higher for Scottish women. For more than 25 years
premature death rates have been consistently highest in
Scotland.
